The Carnivore Crew is offering the opportunity for community members, businesses, and organizations to contribute a flat amount prior to the livestock auctions at the Butte County Fair and Silver Dollar Fair. These donations will be pooled and the leadership of the Carnivore Crew will be in the stands on auction day to purchase animals from exhibitors who are not receiving bids (also referred to as “no bid” animals), helping to maintain a floor price throughout the auction.
As a buyer of last resort, the Carnivore Crew will serve as a backstop to support the investments of youth exhibitors and to encourage their future participation in such an impactful learning experience.
In addition to supporting our hardworking and entrepreneurial youth, the Carnivore Crew will also support local vocational training opportunities and meal programs for the Jesus Center, donating the majority of the meat purchased to the nonprofit organization that provides services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Meals made from the donated meat will be planned and prepared by individuals engaged in the Jesus Center’s vocational training program and served to individuals living at the Jesus Center’s Sabbath House and Renewal Center.
As we reflect on the incredible journey of the Carnivore Crew, we are filled with gratitude and pride. What started as a vision to support youth exhibitors in agriculture has grown into a powerful community of generous donors, local businesses, and compassionate individuals, all united by the desire to make a meaningful difference in our community.
Sincerely, The Carnivore Crew Steering Committee
The Carnivore Crew was able to purchase and donate over 1,000 pounds of locally raised meat. This contribution will provide nutritious meals for families in need through the Jesus Center and support vocational training programs, creating a lasting impact beyond the junior livestock auction.
At our first junior livestock auction as Carnivore Crew, we proudly supported 11 youth exhibitors by purchasing 4 hogs, 3 lambs, 2 goats, 1 steer, and 1 chicken pen at the Butte County Fair. The Crew’s presence ensured that each exhibitor received fair compensation for their hard work, while the community came together to keep auction prices competitive.
Those wishing to donate by check can do so by making out the check to Butte Agriculture Foundation with Carnivore Crew in the memo line and mailing to Butte Agriculture Foundation, PO Box 360, Durham, CA 95938.
The Butte Agriculture Foundation is a 501(c)3 Public Benefit Corporation for public and charitable purposes organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law.
